Harmony, a cappella Style – Week 14

Harmony

The focus of this weeks effort is on establishing harmony.  No background music, no movie trailer.  Just intense focus on oneness with the universal mind.  Prayer is what we are doing and when done well we find ourselves in Harmony with the Universal Mind.  I think I have come to realize that learning how to pray and doing it daily is valuable.  Over the years, I have gotten away from this.

A few weeks ago our pastor presented a sermon on prayer and one of the points he made was that a thankful prayer is as important as a supplicant prayer.  One of our recent exercises has been filling out the index cards with things that we are thankful for.  Really cool way to connect with God.  That harmony and the law of Substitution establishes that relationship that we are looking for in the flow of giving and receiving too.  Also the affirmations  we repeat throughout the day continues that established relationship between our whole and perfect self, and the perfect Universal.

Today is a New Year and so we begin another scroll.  This one seems to have my name all over it  and will again link back to the index cards.  Because of self esteem issues that I have, for me  to say thrice daily that I am nature’s greatest miracle is challenging.  I do not yet have enough cards filled out with accomplishments and positive attributes about myself. Hope I will catch up. Kathy says that I’m not recognizing things about me.  She does, and that may be true.  Problem is that I need to profess them, she doesn’t.  This is a stumbling block in my progress that I am working on.  Suggestions appreciated.

The Og Mandino Group’s CEO, Dave Blanchard, has a book out that I just read and plan on rereading again this weekend called, The Observer’s Chair, and it’s about healing self-esteem.  It appears that Og and Dave had some issues that they dealt with.  There’s some history about OM and how he came to write the GS that is interesting, too.  There also is a short audio section on affirmations that complements what we’re doing.

My challenges in this MKMMA have been first to crystallize my DMP, a challenge that many of us have and continue to have.  Self esteem issues Og dealt with and so do I.  Whatever is next?

I was born in the same hospital I trained in almost 65 years ago. Family came from good old Germanic stock matched with my Irish mother's value added good cooking and discipline. I had four brothers and I was the oldest. Education was with the Notre Dame nuns, the Jesuit priests, and then the Holy Cross fathers at Notre Dame. I completed my medical school back in Milwaukee and actually trained in the same hospital I was born in. My best thing that ever happened to me was meeting and then marrying my Kathy, a patient and loving gal who has given me three great sons and a lot of her patience. The story is longer, but for now check out donketterhagen.com for more specifics. We spend our days building a Lyoness shopping network and living in the mountains of North Carolina in the summer and Estero, Florida over the winter. Life is good.

  1. Interesting, I shall look up the book you mentioned. How did you get on with the Movie Challenge this week? Would love to hear your take on the movie you chose. Happy New Year, Don … looking forward to the next 12 weeks with you 🙂

    1. Thanks, Anna. We’re going to find Door to Door and watch that this week. I think Mark and Davene are really into movies. They sure know the good ones.

  2. Don I really enjoy your transparency with this post. It really sounds like Kathy (I’m assuming that’s your wife) has supported you through all of this. She sees in you some great things and you’re struggling to fill out 30 index cards. I struggled with it too…as I’m only 33 and haven’t really experienced a ton of the world, nor have I had a lot of profound moments in my life yet. Some of my cards are the affirmations, some of them are my accomplishments of course, and some of them are also my POA. That helped me to get to the number of index cards that I was striving for. I have no problems with the gratefuls every day, are you having issues with those? Great post and very transparent. Thank you!!!

    1. Yes, I have problems with the gratefuls. Tried writing my mini-journal for yesterday and not particularly spectacular. Now the days before, yes I am really grateful for the time that I had with my family. But I think I’m going to have to look harder on a daily basis for the gratefuls.
